Hi, my name is Huiran Yi (易慧然). I am a PhD Candidate at the School of Information, University of Michigan, where I am a Rackham Predoctoral Fellow (2026-2027). I work with Dr. Silvia Lindtner and serve as the Research Operations Lead for the Center for Ethics, Society, and Computing (ESC). I am also a member of the tech. culture. matters. research collective and Global Media and Communication Collective at the University of Michigan.

My qualitative and interpretive research explores the social and cultural aspects of technology with transnational attention on contemporary global China. Grounded in digital studies, science and technology studies (STS), social computing, and China studies, my research focuses on three main streams: (1) labor within data-driven sociotechnical systems, (2) social construction of AI in workplaces, and (3) community-based collaborative work within marginalized populations.
